Why is Taekwondo good for kids?

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that has gained widespread popularity around the world for its focus on discipline, self-control and physical fitness. In recent years, Taekwondo has become a popular activity for kids in and around the Kogarah and Kingsgrove areas, as parents look for ways to keep their children active, healthy, and engaged in a fun and challenging activity.


One of the main benefits of Taekwondo for kids in Kogarah and Kingsgrove is that it can help improve their physical fitness and mental well-being. Taekwondo is a full-body workout that involves a range of movements, including kicks, punches, blocks and more. This can help kids develop strength, flexibility and coordination, as well as improve their overall cardiovascular health.

At St.George Martial Arts Academy, our Samurais program starts kids off as early as 3 years of age, which is the perfect age to commence development of fine and gross motor skills for these pre-school age students.


Look for a school that emphasises safety and proper technique, and that has a positive and supportive environment – this is exceptionally important as instructors need to always strike. fine balance between building up the student and developing their confidence while at the same time continuously challenging the student to push beyond their comfort zone.


You may also want to consider how many branch locations are available to you for your convenience as well as how broad your prospective club's timetable is, ie. how many classes are available per week for the specific age of your child and do the classes that re available fit into your own life schedule. At SGMAA (St.George Martial Arts Academy) we boast 'Unlimited Classes' 6 days per week, across both our Kogarah and Kingsgrove dojangs for the convenience of our students and their parents who are supporting them on this Martial Arts journey.


When your child first begins Taekwondo classes, they will likely start with basic movements and techniques and gradually progress to more advanced skills as they gain experience and confidence.



Taekwondo classes can be a great way for kids to meet new friends and develop a sense of camaraderie with other students. At SGMAA, we are proud to have developed our own Kyorugi (Sparring) Squad and have squad members that have achieved 1st place Gold medal success at both state and national tournaments.
